3/4 Strad Model Violin ca 1880

This is a 3/4 size violin modeled after Antonio Stradivari, handmade about 1880.  It is a solo quality instrument with brilliant sound and excellent projection; the perfect violin for an advanced student or prodigy, for solo or orchestral music.

This 3/4 violin was owned and played by Helen Vogel during her childhood in the early 1900s.  As an adult professional violinist, she played a very fine quality copy of a Carlo Bergonzi violin.  Helen later was the only female violinist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra in the 1920s and 1930s.

The violin is in near perfect condition with a gorgeous two piece maple back that is highly flamed, with matching ribs and neck.  The top is of finely grained spruce with very desirable hazel or "bear claw" figure.  The varnish is brown over a golden ground.

Sale Price: $4200.
