Maker of Violins, Violas and Cellos

Catherine Violin 2020
The Catherine Violin, #75, was made by Thurmond Knight in his Glover, Vermont shop in the summer of 2020.  The instrument is modeled after a violin made by Antonio Stradivari in Cremona, Italy. The two-piece spruce top is of fine even grain, narrow at the center join, widening out at the periphery.  The two-piece maple back is highly figured with flames at right angles to the center join.  The maple ribs are of similar flame.  Oil varnish is of a medium dark brown color with gold highlights.  The tone is crisp and bell like in the upper registers, full bodied and very warm in the bottom end.  Projection is excellent with quick response.  This violin sold to a Vermont violinist, Franklyn Heyburn in early 2021.
