Maker of Violins, Violas and Cellos

David Ashley Hall Violin 2006

David Ashley Hall of Glover, Vermont, made his first instrument in 2006 under the tutelage of Thurmond Knight.  The violin was modeled after Stradivarius and is in pristine condition.  The back has Jay Ungar's signature in the right upper bout.  The oil varnish is orange-brown with slight wear over the right lower bout of the back.  The craftsmanship is very good.  The two piece spruce top has medium spaced even grain.  The two piece maple back is well and evenly flamed, with the curls traveling horizontally.  The neck and ribs are of similar wood.  The tone is open and warm with good response and projection.  Sale Price: $4200 U.S. dollars.
