Jakob Stainer Violin ca. 1925
This violin is modeled after Jakob Stainer ca. 1925. With beautiful warm brown varnish, the top is of two pieces of fine grained spruce, and the back is of two pieces of medium flamed maple, with neck and ribs to match. The "Stainer" stamp is found just beneath the button on the back, and also inside the bass F-hole on the inside of the back. Ebony fittings are use throughout. There is a well repaired top crack beneath the tailpiece. Fine craftsmanship has been used throughout as noted especially in the carved F-holes, arching, sinking, corners, and purfling. Its voice is of tenor timbre and even across the strings. Easy to play, the instrument has fine projection with a nice warm sound. |
