Maker of Violins, Violas and Cellos

Robert Laumann Violin

This violin was made by Robert Laumann in Budapest.  Born 1870, he was a pupil of Bruckner.  He established his violin shop at Budapest, 1895-1928.  He won medals for violin making at Paris, Budapest and Vienna.
He carefully modeled his instruments after Stradivarius, Maggini and other Italian makers.   His craftsmanship is very good.  He used yellow and red-brown varnish which is rather supple.  Often used wide grain belly wood, and maple with small figure.  His instruments were known for their responsive mellow tonal quality.
Robert Laumann is listed on page 688 in William Henley's Universal Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers.  This violin is modeled after Maggini.  Sale price: $6200 USD.
