This violin was handmade by Wilhelm Ernst Martin. According to William Henley's Universal Dictionary of Violin and Bow Makers, Wilhelm Ernst was "born 1862. Pupil of E. Glasel. Worked at Markneukirchen (Saxony). Died 1907. Specialised in making replicas of a Nicolas Lupot model, most of them exported to U.S.A. Also made good Cremonese copies. Assisted by two sons--Ernst Otto and Max Alfred." This instrument is modeled after Nicolas Amati, and is in mint condition. |
