Howard Sands Violin, 1983
This instrument is the 6th violin made by violinmaker, Howard Sands, of Eagle Point, Oregon, in 1983. It was commissioned by a woman in Vermont. The back is two-piece well flamed Big Leaf Maple, with matching ribs and neck. The top is two-piece close grained Engleman spruce. The instrument is in excellent condition. Spirit varnish is a dark honey color. Blocks and linings are of willow wood. Mr. Sands was born in Montclair, New Jersey in 1948, and has made 150 violins. He continues to live in Oregon, and has retired from violin making at the present time.
