Maker of Violins, Violas and Cellos

Charles R. Ladd Violin 1839

Charles R. Ladd of Springfield, Mass. made and owned this violin in 1839.  It was restored in 1899 by C. G. Spalding.  It has a two piece spruce top of straight even grain, and a single piece well flamed maple back.  The instrument is in very good condition, and has been fully restored.  There is a spruce top crack that has been well repaired from the bottom of the right F hole extending down to the edge.  Sound quality is excellent with good projection.
