Maggini Model 14 1/2 inch Viola

            This viola was modeled after Giovanni Paolo Maggini, with double purfling of the top and back, and an extra turn to the scroll spirals.  The golden brown oil varnish is in excellent condition.  The two piece top has medium even grain that widens out in the periphery, reportedly the best configuration of spruce for a violin/viola top.  The two piece back is of highly flamed maple with chevrons pointing upward.   Considering the small size of the viola, the sound is open and large, with very good projection.
