Woodrow Wilson Simmons 17 inch Viola
Woodrow Wilson Simmons 17 inch viola was made by Thurmond Knight in 1999, and is modeled after Maggini. It was dedicated to the memory of Thurmond's Uncle Woodrow in Rockingham, North Carolina. The one piece back is from northern Michigan red maple cut in 1990. The two piece spruce top was cut in Canada in 1917. The instrument was sold from the shop of Horst Kloss in Needham, Mass. to a professional player (who wishes to remain anonymous) who lives, plays and teaches in Maine. |
