16 1/4 inch Bethany Viola modeled after Andreas Amati
The
16 1/4 inch viola made by Thurmond in 1995 and
dedicated to his wife, Bethany, is modeled after
Andreas Amati's 1676 "Conte Vitale." The
instrument has a full open sound with excellent
projection. Oil varnish. Rosewood pegs with
white pins and ebony collars. Boxwood tailpiece
and chinrest. European maple back and European
spruce top, all cut in 1954. Bass bar and soundpost made with red spruce cut
in 1866. Bethany Viola is owned by Native American performer, Arvel Bird. |
