This is a very nice German copy of a violin made by Nicolaus Amati in 1670. The label reads as follows: “Nicolaus amatus Cremonensis hieronymi fil. ac antonij nepos fecit 1670. The translation: “Nicolaus Amati, the beloved son of Hieronymus of Cremona, and grandson of Anthony made in 1670” The violin has a number of repairs, including a button patch as well as several cracks of the spruce top, as seen in the photos. The tone is warm and mellow and would make a very good ensemble instrument. Sale Price: $3500
