This violin was made in the shop of Ernst Heinrich Roth in 1983. The label reads as follows:
“Ernst Heinrich Roth
Markneukirchen, Germany 1983
Reproduction of Josef Guarnerius
Cremona 1732”
The instrument is in near perfect condition, with only a few shallow scratches on the varnish with one slightly deeper nick just to the outer border of the left F Hole. There are no cracks on the corpus or the neck/scroll. The two piece spruce top is of even straight grain that widens out slightly in the outer bouts. The two piece maple back has a tight even flame throughout, with ribs and neck to match. The dimensions of the corpus, corners, purfling, arching and F holes are all in keeping with the style of Josef Guarnerius, also known as Guarnerius del Gesu’. The violin has a very large sound and is of solo quality in its sonority. Price is $3200.
